‘May is Purse Month Here at RaeBean Collection household at least! I have been a busy bee working on Mother’s Day purses and Teacher Gift Purses. I’ve made several Hippo Hobo bags by Emkie Designs. She’s been one of my favorites not only to make, but to wear, if I have lots of stuff to carry. Emki uses lots of great pictures in her patterns and makes the whole bag making process easy to understand. My favorite part of this bag is the shoulder strap. It doesn’t fall down.

After sewing these pretty ladies, I found another purse pattern maker, Swoon Patterns. Now I warn you, if you click on either Emki’s or Swoon’s links, I can’t be responsible for the drooling on your keyboard or for any time lost or money spent on making these bags. Swoon patterns do not have lots of pictures, but the directions are straight forward and the bags are easy to customize if you’re a more skilled sewer. So, let’s get started on my Swoon purses.
I made an “Emergency Teacher ‘s Kit” for Rae ‘s teacher. Rae picked out the fabric from Fabric.com. The school ‘s mascot is a giraffe, so this was perfect. I used Swoon ‘s Olive pattern and stuffed the bag with essentials a teacher needs when she can ‘t leave the room, like Aleve, chap stick, deodorant, hair spray, brush, mints, nail file, 5 hour energy drink, drink packets, and chocolate!
I love the look of the Olive bag
Bling! All my bags have bling!
We had so much fun filling up the Olive
For Rae ‘s Social Studies teacher, we picked the one of the left – the Marianne. For Rae ‘s math teacher, we used the pattern for the Mabel – the one on the right. Both were filled with a few goodies to get them though a tough work day 🙂
The Marianne and the Mabel
I LOVE her! I”ve made the large one with handles and I use her on a daily basis to run out and get the kids, run to the fabric store for more fabric, you get the idea. For the teacher”s and instructional assistants at Rae”s school, I made them each a Coraline small clutch with the strap. I added a bag filled with pens and pencils and a bag filled with some candy, mints, and teas. Here are pictures of some of them.

One more lady needed to be praised this year. Sadly, our bus driver, Mrs. F, retired this year. She is an amazing lady that really takes care of our kids and makes them feel special. To celebrate her retirement, I made a Hippo Hobo purse for her. I loved it! It was not easy to give up, but it was worth it. Here she is:
I just LOVE this purse
A little bling
Extra pockets for phone, pens, etc.
I thought this fabric was perfect for the retired life – a time to live, love and laugh even more! I made the accents out of leather I salvaged from a trench coat from the 80”s. The tassel is hand made as well. The instructions are at Emki”s Designs tutorial page. I also made a few other purses and bags because I”ve become obsessed with making things! This one day, I didn’ t sew. I went into withdrawals. I got up early the next morning and sewed a quick little bag. Now I just have to sell these suckers so I can make more! I posted the extra purses in my Etsy store. Stop by and pick up a few for gifts. I”ll even make you a custom order! help feed my addiction!!!>> Back to making another Swoon. My next one is the Bonnie. After her, I”m going to start work on my sling bag pattern. Or maybe a pooch bag for my Maggie.
